Re: Why Cubase lags behind other DAWs? (or does it?)

I do EDM and I do it in Cubase Pro 10. I'm a long-term Cubase user as well (started at Atari ST and have this old thing in my garage too...). So maybe I am somehow "contaminated"/locked-in to its workflow. I'm not doing music for a living.
I recently tried Ableton for about 2 months. I missed so many features that I returned back to Cubase. I tried it to extend my creativity by another approach and workflow. I wanted to break-out of my standard way of doing things. I know that everything I can do with Cubase is also somehow possible with Live. But Live was too limiting in many things.
Nowadays my daughter is working with the Ableton Live license and she frequently asks me for help. I'm happy to return to my Cubase setup each time. I just know how to achieve things fast in Cubase and was maybe not ready to go the extra-mile to learn Ableton Live deep.
It's just a matter of taste.
But I also must admit that I have seen many clever and cool features at Ableton Live that I would like to see in Cubase too. Sometimes I look jealously at Live when e.g. I want to stack multiple VST instruments or when I want to control multiple VST parameters with one knob or when I see the power of the Utility Device in action or...

Cubase used to be industry leading DAW in the days of cubase SX and prior.
But now other DAWs like studio one, logic, reaper etc have functions and stability that cubase lacks, and cost much less.
even thou cubase has some unique features, but it's still behind others especially with no ARA2 support, not as intuitive as other DAWs, very laggy preset manager, etc.
Maybe because Steinberg think they're still the leaders ? They're not anymore , they contributed alot to the DAW industry with VST, VST3, ASIO etc. But after the part of the Steinberg team left Steinberg and went to AIR / Avid, Presonus etc, everyone left at steinberg don't really know what they're doing anymore
give example of what lags or functions ... make a list
I think if you read a bit above, you will find enough of them
Again... Give truly examples. Make a list with comparison
Cubase Pro 9.5.50 x64
Windows 10 x 64bit
Intel Core i7 860
20 GB RAM
audio interface MOTU 828 MKII

in some key points(for me at least) it lags.(its a great program but other competitive DAWs in some areas are much better)
the hiccups in audio when adding/removing tracks.inserts etc..
can't move tracks in mixconsole
new tools, smart tool some midi tools in key/drum editor(for example no range tool to copy sections by the bar/quantise value etc..)
wrap audio with multi audio channel selected
generally still lot of clicks to do every day jobs
the list can go on, but this features should be in modern Daws already, most other Daws have them
cubase 10.5 pro ,halion 6 GA5 HS2,HSO,Dark planet,neosoul keys.
Sony vaioF13 i7 CPU win10 8gb
Steinberg MR816csx ,MR816x ,UR44 ,CC121
Motif es6-Kawai Mp4-Korg PA4X-MOXF8
cubasis,cubase ic pro

it’s almost impossible to find modern producers that made hits recently in pop music that used cubase.
It’s mostly Logic X, ProTools, or Ableron Live
I agree wholeheartedly. Pro Tools is, or was a tape recorder in code. The midi functionality it has now is an afterthought.

That's a myth going back to at least 2001 when it was garbage. Its midi editing capabilities are very good these days. I'm a Jedi lord Master on PT's :geek: :geek: and whilst its midi is not up there with Cubase it beats the hell out of Logics tragic Key editor.

Why does it crash?
independent manufacturer rep (not a Steinberg employee)
[safe mode] [cubase manual] [score editor manual]

That’s a good question for steinberg. I Don’t know, but when it happens often, reinstalling cubase and elicenser fixes it
