RMS metering in tracks. You don't need it often, but when you do....( just try and gain stage a trumpet section...)

So it's officially about to drop. I bought a 9.5 upgrade ages ago, but I forgot about it, as I have several overlapping projects. I didn't even get to activate it... :D

Ha - good spot Sonik. And now we know the first real information about Cubase Pro 10 from Steinberg themselves, and nobody here predicted it... Cubase Pro 10 will be... more black.

Image

How much more black could this be? And the answer is... none. None more black.

1. When the project gets bigger, everything slows down including save time.(better than Sonar, but S1 seems to have no restrictions due to light engine).
I've run a disabled template with well over 1500+ tracks, mostly single Kontakt instrument tracks and save times are around 2 seconds.
Hi InLightTone,

How large is the .cpr file associated with that template?

Anywhere near 4GB, perchance?

Have you noticed (or, better yet, measured) any difference between (i) load time, (ii) save or 'save as' time, and (iii) unload time of the project file?

Do you guys just try out possible "Cubase 10" links in our shop? We have to be more careful next time...

For now Cubase Pro 10 is just a black box though (pun intended)...

One interesting tidbit - download size of Cubase 10 Pro is 21gb, up from 9.5's 12gb. I guess that means more bundled instruments - SE version of Symphonic Orchestra maybe. Or an awful lot of tutorial videos. Sigh... still, as long as they've done something about the whole Track Presets / Archives / Disabled Track nightmare, I shan't much care.

Seems like a much larger download size compared to C9.5 so loads of new content - hopefully not at the expense of a major workflow and UI overhaul.

Would love to see ARA integration! Works so well in Studio One.

Steinberg constantly lead the industry so would expect them to come up with a few surprises too. One of the best things they ever did was create chord tracks. I didn't even release I needed it until they created it and now can't be without it.Genius!!

Not sure what you mean there - GA5 is listed normally. Out of interest, that's 32GB - makes me think that quite a bit of the C10 Pro download size increase might be GA5 SE.

I just looked and most of my .cpr files are around 400MB. That is with expression maps for all Kontakt instruments that can use them, no individual articulations, and drum maps for all drum instruments that can use them.

The save time is consistent, and like I said I tried to so this Studio One, but it fell apart at around 100 tracks and without visibility macros it's a nightmare anyways. I recall a version or two back that save times were around 8 seconds, but 9.5, the time came down to around 2-3, totally tolerable for me without having the hassle of running Vienna,

As far as "save as" and unloading, I believe exiting the project there can be a delay. Full disclosure, I sold Cubase a few months back but will be re-buying it when 10 drops (idiot)...

400mb for a CPR file is huge - I autosave 10 versions and some tracks / cues can run to 30+ different versions.... I might get to 100gb+ per track that way. Disabled tracks can massively increase your file size and autosave time.

This is one of the biggest reasons why many of us are looking to C10 to improve our lot. I'd far rather have a much slimmer template with all fx and groups in place, and then add track presets as I need them, having presets for libraries and sections so I can quickly build things as required . It doesn't work currently as Track Presets don't store routing / send info among other things. Track Archives are buggy as hell, so no solution.

Never use autosave myself and I don't save alt versions, guess I'm living dangerously. I think the track preset idea is good as well with downside being manually routing. I am currently using Studio One and their browser and preset system is pretty fast to use as an alternative to large templates. I am also using a fast m2 drive and that makes a huge difference in save times. Can't wait to get the same for disabled Kontakt tracks, the loading times would probably be like lightening.

That being said, I like seeing everything that is important and used often, organized and categorized in front of me. Having all string ensembles, string sections, solo strings etc. with their associated expression maps from different companies sitting there ready to go instead of hunting and loading suits me.

Of course the downside is that I have to have ALL of the Action Strikes instruments, and ALL of the Damage instruments except the drum kits there as well. It's a balancing act between useful and excessive. What I do aim for is to have all of the useful, most often reached for, or want to experiment with "paints" there as I like to layer and blend and want all the potentially useful colors on hand.

Funny you should mention Action Strikes - I found those by far the hungriest patches when disabled. If you ditched all them, you might find your CPR file half the size or even less.

FWIW... all three versions are on the shop in exciting shades of grey. Artist - https://www.steinberg.net/en/shop/buy_p ... st-10.html . Elements - https://www.steinberg.net/en/shop/buy_p ... ts-10.html . Artist is the same download size as Pro, Elements is 15Gb. That sort of follows the status quo I think, all three versions of 9.5 have Groove Agent and HALion Sonic for example.
